To say that nuts are simply a nutritious food would sound a bit of an understatement.
Walnuts have a lot of healthy fats, fiber, vitamins and minerals, which are only a small part of their benefits.
There is evidence of the walnut’s origin that it was grown in ancient Persia before spreading around the world. It then became a popular commodity in the commercial market and was often gifted to royal families.
The Romans believed walnuts would counteract poison and heal the skin, while in traditional Chinese medicine they were used to detoxify the kidneys, nourish the blood, and promote gastrointestinal health.
The walnut oil
And there is so much interest in walnuts in science today that for the past 50 years, scientists and experts in the field have gathered annually at the University of California, Davis for a walnut conference to discuss the latest nut health research.
While studies have traditionally focused on the benefits of walnuts, more recent research shows that oil derived from walnuts retains all of its health benefits while becoming more versatile.
The oil has a subtle nutty flavor and, thanks to the cold-pressed method, preserves all the beneficial nutrients and compounds found in the nut, including unsaturated fatty acids and plant compounds called polyphenols.
